The Southern Cross, a sign of hope, has hung in our sky since before any person walked this ancient land.
The first St Joseph's Catholic Church building began in 1872 when Fr McDonagh laid the foundation stone after saying Mass in a tent. A new stone building replaced the old one in about 1891. That building was then replaced when the new and current church was blessed and opened on 25th February 1923 by the Most Rev James Duhig DD, Archbishop of Brisbane. Rev Edward Barry was the Parish Priest.
